Op-ed on buying local, biologist’s style

There’s an interesting Op-Ed piece in the NYT by a wildlife biologist about the impact of buying local on the fall of the sparrow.

Gosh, I’m such a short-sighted ass. I thought I was buying organic for my and my family’s health. Seriously, I know the value to the environment generally when we buy organic, sustainably farmed vegetables. But when you read something that tells you specifically that Bobolinks are hurt when we don’t support local, organic farms, well . . . you just feel a little heaviness in your chest, huh?

Thanks for spreading the word, keeping us all informed.

BTW, you’ve read that Barbara Kinsolver book, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, yes?
